About Dr. Krakow
David Sert Krakow, M.D. is a double board certified psychiatrist
with a profound commitment to treating and healing people with psychiatric
and addictive disorders. Dr. Krakow specializes in a fluid combination
of techniques including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and the
treatment of chemical and behavioral addictions in his private practice.
In addition, as Director of Bioscience Research, LLC, Dr. Krakow
is extensively involved in research that is expanding knowledge
and exploring new and exciting treatments for psychiatric illness.
After pursuing post-baccalaureate pre-medical studies at Harvard
University and Wellesley College, Dr. Krakow earned his Doctor of
Medicine degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in
Philadelphia, PA. He did his training in General Psychiatry at the
New York University Medical Center. He was the Chief Resident in
the department of Psychiatry in his fourth and final year of residency
training. He continued his training at New York University Medical
Center by completing a two-year Clinical and Research Addiction
Medicine Fellowship. He also completed a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Fellowship at the Columbia University Psychoanalytic Institute,
at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
In 1992, Dr. Krakow was awarded his Medical and Surgical License
from the State of New York, and a year latter was licensed by the
New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Controlled Substances.
He has received specialty board certification from the American
Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry in 1996, and, subsequently,
two years later, from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
for subspecialty certification in Addiction Psychiatry. Since 1998
he has held the academic appointment of Assistant Clinical Professor
of Psychiatry at Columbia University, College of Physicians and
Surgeons.
In addition to these credentials, Dr. Krakow’s current hospital
and clinical assignments include Attending in the Department of
Psychiatry, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons,
Director of Bioscience Research, LLC, Official Evaluation and Treatment
Provider for the New York State Department of Health, Committee
for Physicians’ Health, Official Evaluation and Treatment
Provider for the Medical Society of the State of New York, Office
of Professional Medical Conduct. Dr. Krakow provides Forensic Evaluations
in the area of addiction, mood and anxiety Disorders. He has also
been an Attending Physician and Research Consultant in the Department
of Psychiatry and Behavioral medicine at Saint Vincent’s Hospital
and Medical Center, and an Instructor in Psychiatry at New York
University School of Medicine.
Since his licensure, Dr. Krakow has maintained a demanding teaching/lecture
schedule. He teaches introductory and advanced courses in Psychiatric
Medicine to first and second year medical students at the College
of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University Medical College.
He has given many lecture series to Medical students and Residents
at Facilities such as St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center,
New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital. A contributor
to various publications, Dr. Krakow is the co-author of a chapter
in On Call Psychiatry, a pocket-sized guide to diagnosis and treatment
of psychiatric conditions used by clinicians and psychiatrist in
training.
Dr. Krakow is a member of the American Psychiatric Association,
American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, American Society of Addiction
Medicine, American Academy of Psychoanalysis, and the American College
of Forensic Examiners.
